Max van Egmond
was born in Semarang, Java,
which then belonged to the
Dutch, in 1936. He attended
high-school in Holland and
studied sociology an
psychology for a time. He
has also worked as a radio
announcer with Radio
Hilversum.
He simultaneously completed
a course in voice-training
under Tine van Willingen,
which has allowed him since
1959 to devote himself
entirely to music. He has
won several important
singing competitions, for
example in Hertogenbosch in
1959, in Brussels in 1962
and in Munich in 1964, and
in 1966 he was invited to
join UNAR ("Union
International de Promotion
artistique").
Max van Egmond is a lyrical
bass-baritone with a
particular bent for virtuoso
Baroque music. His
repertoire lies mainly in
the field of oratorio but
also comprises Lieder and
Kammeroper. Besides
appearing with several
famous orchestras and giving
Lieder recitals, this artist
has contributed in no small
degree to the success of
many TELEFUNKEN-recordings
of early music, ranging from
the art of the minnesinger
to the cantatas and passions
of Bach.
