DOUGLAS GUEST Born 1916. Educated at Reading School, Royal College of Music and King's College, Cambridge. Organ Scholar of King's College, Cambridge, and John Stewart of Rannoch Scholar in Sacred Music, 1935-1939. Served in 1939-1945 war as Major, Royal Artillery (H.A.C.); mentioned in despatches, Normandy 1944. 1945-1950. Director of Music, Uppingham School. 1950-1957. Organist and Master of the Choristers at Salisbury Cathedral. 1957-1963. Organist and Master of the Choristers at Worchester Cathedral and conductor of the Three Choirs Festival. Guest conductor, City of Birmingham Orchestra. 1963. Appointed Master of the Choristers and Organist of Westminster Abbey, and Professor at the Royal College of Music. Chairman of the Council of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain since 1953.
