ROGER FISCHER was born in Woodford, Essex, and at an early age became a chorister at Woodgord Parish Church. He was educated at Bancroft's School and then at the Royal College of Music, where he studied with Harold Darke. While at the College he gained his F.R.C.O. and the Geoffrey Tankard Prize for organ playing (1959). In that year he won an Organ Scholarship to Christ Church, Oxford, and in 1962 he became Assistant Organist Hereford Cathedral and a lecturer at Hereford College of Education. At this time he was fortunate in having the opportunity to receive a very thorough training as a pianist from Professor Claud Biggs. In 1967 he was appointed Organist and Master of the Choristers at Chester Cathedral and since that date has given many recitals in this country and made several recordings.
